B
Company is responsible for training all second year officer cadets
to reach the Military Training Qualification 2 (MTQ 2). This is
the beginning of formal leadership training where the officer cadets
are taught the combat estimate, orders and platoon level tactics.
A demanding live firing range package is also undertaken and a number
of leadership tasks given to Officer Cadets to broaden their personal
leadership qualities. The MTQ 2 examination is a challenging hurdle
that must be cleared if the officer cadet wishes to remain in the
OTC. This equates to the tactics examination sat by all Regular
Army Officer Cadets at Sandhurst at the end of their first term.
Special-to-arm training is also undertaken and Officer Cadets are
able to attend courses to gain specialist skills such as signal
instructor and to then use these skills to either instruct others
or take part in training with Territorial and Regular Army units.
Adventure training and a wide variety of social events complete
the package. Annual camp serves to confirm the MTQ 2 training but
also begins the selection process for command appointments in the
third year. This is what many officer cadets aspire to and is one
of the most valuable development paths available as the officer
cadet selected leads up to 20 first year officer cadets through
their MTQ 1 training. |
