Equal Opportunities Statement

Equal Opportunities is about:
Treating everyone fairly and without prejudice.
Keeping the Army free from any form of discrimination, including harassment, victimisation and bullying.
Understanding what is expected of us in terms of duty, performance, standards and behaviour.
Focusing on the individual's abilities.
Removing barriers which impact more harshly on people of certain racial groups or of one sex.

Equal Opportunities is not about:

Pretending everyone is the same.
Giving advantages to certain groups.
Lowering standards.
Setting quotas.

Your responsibility is to:
Treat everyone fairly and without prejudice.
Respect others.
Ensure that no one is discriminated against, harassed, victimised or bullied.
Develop your own professional military skills and encourage others to do the same.
Report any breaches of the Army's Equal Opportunities policy through the chain of command.

Any soldier, single or married, male or female, may always seek advice from his or her Unit Equal Opportunities Adviser. Also confidential advice is available from the local SSAFA social worker or social work adviser, or the Confidential Support Line.
Advice on racial or sexual discrimination or harassment is also available from Citizens Advice Bureaux, Law Centres, Equality Councils and from both the Commission for Racial Equality and the Equal Opportunities Commsision.

The full text of the Army's Equal Opportunities Policy is contained in Army General and Administrative Instructions Volume 2 Chapter 75 which is available in your Unit Orderly Room. Copies of the text are also held by Unit Equal Opportunities Advisers and in Army Education Centres, Army Libraries, AFAB or HIVEs.
