Unlike Orienteering in a civilian club, Orienteering in the Army
is classified as normal military training. It is seen as a distinct
form of navigation training and its value lies in increasing fitness
and navigation skills, as well as the development of decision making,
mental robustness and a competitive edge. The OTC runs an Orienteering
Team which attends events all over the South East of England usually
on a Wednesday afternoon. Because orienteering is classified by
the Army as military training, Officer Cadets are able to be paid
for taking part and free transport will be provided from the OTC
to events across the South East.
The RA PSI and
the CO run the OTC entries and any Officer Cadet who wants to attend
any of the events below should check the ULOTC website the week
before for details of timings.
Alternatively,
check out the Army Orienteering Club website at www.baoc.org.uk.
